Re-Certification

If you are a Registrar, you must apply for recertification with CIRA annually. You must meet current certification requirements, be familiar with the current Registrant Agreement and you cannot be in default of your obligations under the Registrar Agreement. You must also have passed CIRA’s policy accreditation exam, and, if you wish to integrate your system with CIRA’s EPP-based registry system, you must also have passed a technical accreditation exam. The re-certification of a Registrar is at CIRA’s sole discretion. For more information on the Registrar recertification process, click here.

Failure to be recertified will result in the termination of the Registrar Agreement and loss of access to CIRA’s .CA registry system.

Recertification application

Your application for recertification must be received at least 30 days before the anniversary date of your current certification. You will be sent email recertification reminders 60 and 30 days prior to the expiration of your current certification. To renew your certification:

  • Login to the .CA manager interface and complete and submit the Registrar recertification application.
  • Ensure there are sufficient funds in your Registrar deposit account to cover the then-current recertification fee (plus applicable taxes). The fee will be automatically debited from the account.
  • Provide an updated Certificate of Corporate Status and any other documents requested by CIRA.

CIRA processes applications in the order they are received. You will be notified by email whether or not you are recertified.

  • If you are recertified, recertification takes effect on your certification anniversary date and the Registrar Agreement continues on full force and effect.
  • If you are not recertified, your recertification fee will be refunded. When you are notified, you must immediately cease all of the activities associated with the role of Registrar. For full details, please see the Registrar Agreement.

You may withdraw your application at any time before recertification be providing CIRA with notice via email. Your recertification fee will be refunded, and your certification will expire on your certification anniversary date or earlier as determined by CIRA. You may apply for new Registrar certification at a later date.
